INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the Housing and Loan Fund.
The help we provide
The Church of Scotland Housing and Loan Fund for Retired
Ministers and Widows and Widowers of Ministers, to give
the full title, was established by the General Assembly
to facilitate the provision of housing accommodation for
retired ministers and widow(er)s of ministers. Help where
needed may be by either providing a house to rent or by
advancing a house purchase loan.
The trustees may grant tenancy of one of their existing
houses or they may agree to purchase for rental occupation
an appropriate house of an applicant's choosing. Leases
are normally on very advantageous terms as regards rental
levels. Alternatively, the trustees may grant a housing
loan of up to 70 per cent of a house purchase price
but with an upper ceiling. Favourable rates of interest
are charged.
The trustees are also prepared to consider assisting
those who have managed to house themselves, but are
seeking to move to more suitable accommodation. Those
with a mortgaged home in retirement may be granted a
loan to enable them to repay such a mortgage and to
thereafter enjoy the favourable rates of interest charged
by the Housing and Loan Fund.
The trustees now also consider applications from separated
and divorced spouses of working and retired ministers.
