PROJECTS 2009 to 2012: INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE MISSION
- TERRIFY NO MORE - CAMBODIA
Background
 |
Responding to God's command to "seek justice, rescue the oppressed" (Isaiah 1.17, NRSV), IJM rescues people from slavery and forced prostitution in countries where they cannot rely on national authorities for help. Covert investigations are carried out by experienced professionals, who then work with IJM lawyers to get the police to free the victims and arrest and prosecute the traffickers so that they cannot continue to victimise people. |
The work is difficult and sometimes dangerous. In 2007, worldwide, IJM was able to free 207 from forced prostitution. In Cambodia, on which the Guild project focuses, there are over 30,000 girls and young women who have been forced into prostitution and are detained against their will. Some are as young as five. In the first year of the project, IJM Cambodia aims to rescue 65 girls and return them to their families or provide whatever aftercare they need.
