INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the Ecumenical Relations Committee, which
is one of six autonomous committees of the Support
and Services Council.
What is ecumenical relations?
Ecumenism is about different branches of the Church in
Scotland, and indeed Christians around the world, working
together locally and in unity as part of a global Christian
movement.

the Right Rev Sheilagh Kesting (front centre), is flanked
by her chaplains
and ecumenical delegates to the Assembly
Ecumenism springs up naturally in our own back yards.
It isn't just people talking about how the churches can
come together, although that is important. It is mainly
about Christians living in local communities discovering
that there is more that unites us than divides us.
Who are we?
Within the Church of Scotland, the Ecumenical Relations
Committee is responsible for encouraging and enabling
an ecumenical vision in Scotland.
Members seek to encourage ecumenical engagement through
the councils, presbyteries and congregations of the Church
of Scotland.

We promote understanding through ecumenical working
drawn from international and European levels. As part
of the universal Church, we believe that God calls us
to celebrate and move towards visible unity, to strive
to work more closely with our Christian sisters and
brothers in Scotland and throughout the world.
What do we do?
The committee attempts to assist projects at local and
national level which develop ecumenical relationships.
More and more around Scotland, men and women are working,
studying and worshipping together with other Christians,
and the committee organises local and national events.
There is an increasing network of ecumenical officers
who work at creating and fostering local co-operation.
