INTRODUCION
Welcome to the Council of Assembly pages.
History
The Council of Assembly was set up by the General Assembly
of 2004. Its establishment fulfils a hope, expressed in
the Church
without Walls report, for the creation of an executive
function in setting priorities among the boards and committees
of the Church in line with agreed strategy.
The council has the authority to take necessary administrative
decisions between General Assemblies, to co-ordinate the
work of the Church’s central administration and
to take decisions with regard to resources, finances and
staffing. For more information on our remit,
click here or use the links on the right hand side.
Reorganisation
The first task given to the council was to implement the
reorganisation of the Church's central structure, approved
by the General Assembly of 2004. Since 1 June 2005, the
work of the previous boards and committees is now undertaken
through six councils as follows.
There are also a number of associate committees and
departments such as the Ecumenical
Relations Committee and the Guild.
