PARLIAMENTARY AFFAIRS

Politics and the Church

The faith of the Church gives it a passionate commitment to the wellbeing of the nation. Putting that into practice takes many forms both locally and nationally, and our faith doesn't only relate to a 'religious agenda' but to practical caring.
Our experience, vision and values are what we want to contribute to the decision-making process that is shaping communities in Scotland.
The Church and Society Council works closely with ecumenical partners and the UK and Scottish parliaments on a range of key issues.

The Scottish Parliament

The Scottish Parliament building (image © Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body - 2006) The Scottish churches together had a significant role in the movement out of which the Scottish Parliament came. In a distinctive way the churches have been
and continue to be part of Scottish public life by building a fruitful relationship with the new parliament.

National Conversation

First Minister Alex Salmond launched a "national conversation" on Scotland's future. To encourage church members to be part of this conversation the Church and Society Council has produced a set of discussion cards. We plan to have a national gathering in the spring to hear your responses.
