Curriculum for Excellence - Religious and Moral Education

The draft 'experiences and outcomes' in religious and moral education for the Curriculum for Excellence are available on the Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS) website. LTS has prepared two questionnaires relating to these new guidelines and welcomes feedback. Follow this link to read the document and questionnaires: LTS Religious and Moral Education

Religious observance in schools

The council is working closely with Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS) as part of its working group on religious observance in schools. LTS provides independent advice to Scottish parliament ministers, support to education practitioners to improve the quality of education in Scotland and encourages the creative and effective use of technology in education. The religious observance work has focused on responses to the Scottish Executive's policy on the provision of religious observance in Scottish schools and the action for local authorities in planning the provision of religious observance.

For more information, resources and a copy of Religious Observance Circular 1/2005, visit the LTS website at www.ltscotland.org.uk

The Scottish Joint Committee on Religious and Moral Education

The Church and Society Council is a member of the Scottish Joint Committee on Religious and Moral Education.
This group aims to promote religious education, religious studies and moral education in schools and in further and higher education. It also aims to give advice and to receive and make submissions on the curricula for these subjects; to engage in dialogue with groups who have an interest in this field; and to organise conferences of interested parties at Scottish and district levels. Help is also available for teachers through the committee's constituent organisations, which include the Educational Institute of Scotland, the Scottish Teachers' Association, the National Association of Schoolmasters and Union of Women Teachers, and the Professional Association of Teachers.
