CENTRAL PROPERTIES DEPARTMENT
Remit
The purpose of the Central Properties Department is to
provide professional property, facilities and health and
safety service to:
- the Ministries Council;
- World Mission Council;
- Mission and Discipleship Council, and
- other sections of the Church on an ad hoc basis.
Property
The department is responsible for a range of duties including
the acquisition and disposal of manses, furlough houses
and sites for new churches, etc. It also takes a lead
in the construction and redevelopment of Church property,
including new churches, and manages existing Church property
including manses, furlough houses, offices and Church
centres.
The Central Properties Department team is also responsible
for proactive and reactive maintenance, tenant management
and support, congregation and building user traiing
and support, and the identification and selection of
appropriate contractors to undertake works.
Facilities
In its role of providing professional facilities services,
the department identifies and supplies appropriate equipment
and carries out the statutory periodic testing and maintenance
of equipment.
Health and safety
A key area for the department is the implementation, management
and revision of the Health and Safety Policy for the Ministries,
World Mission and Mission and Discipleship councils. This
is to ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at
Work Act 1974, and its supporting legislation. As part
of this remit, the Central Properties Department also
acts in an advisory role providing guidance on the health
and safety of staff, visitors and contractors working
for or on behalf of these councils.
As the Central Properties Department's Health and Safety
Policy document is for our Ministries, World Mission
and Mission and Discipleship councils only
and not for general purpose, is it available
for download on our extranet site - our dedicated online
resource for office bearers, staff and the ministries.
Arbitration
The department is charged with the duty of managing and
undertaking arbitrations on behalf of the General Assembly's
Parish Appraisal Committee, when requested by presbyteries.
