Keep the promise
The Church of Scotland is part of the global campaign
to hold individuals, religious leaders, faith organizations,
governments and intergovernmental organizations accountable
for the commitments they have made and advocates for further
efforts and resources to fight HIV and AIDS. Go to
www.e-alliance.ch/hivaids.jsp for more information
on the campaign.

The first goal of the campaign is to fight HIV stigma
and discrimination. In May 2007 our General Assembly
renewed its call to all people of faith in Scotland
to work to address issues of HIV stigma and discrimination.
On and around World AIDS Day (1 December)
your congregation can take action to keep the promise.
The resources available on this page will help you keep
the promise in worship and giving, learning and supporting.

Background to World AIDS
Day
World AIDS Day is now in its 20th year. The aim of World
AIDS Day is to bring to people's attention the worldwide
challenges and consequences of the epidemic, in order
to prevent the spread of HIV and improve the lives of
people living with the virus. Each year the campaign is
an opportunity for organisations throughout the world
to highlight different aspects of the HIV pandemic in
order to raise awareness and bring about change.
 |
The 2007 theme was "leadership" and
highlighted the need for innovation, vision and |
perseverance in the face of the AIDS challenge. It called
for all sectors of society
- including churches - to take the initiative and provide
leadership on AIDS.
