G8 - Keep the Promise
FACT: There is no cure for HIV, but with antiretroviral (ARV) medication, a person living with HIV can live a normal productive life
FACT: In 2005, the G8 heads of state, meeting at Gleneagles, committed to achieve universal access to HIV prevention, treatment and care by 2010. Universal Access by 2010 is also one of the targets of the Millennium Development Goals, set in 2000 to be achieved by 2015.
FACT: More than 4 million people worldwide are currently receive the necessary medication. This is 10 times more than received it in 2005 - BUT it represents only 2/5th of all who need it.
FACT: World leaders will be meeting in September to review what progress has been made towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals. In October, countries will announce how much they are willing to commit to the funding of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria from 2011 - 2013.

What can we do?
| Remind world leaders NOW to 'Keep their Promise'. Please write to your MP and ask him or her to urge the UK Government to work with the other G8 and G20 leaders, to ensure |
 |
that the global response to HIV and AIDS is high on their agendas.

G8 and G20 meetings - Canada June 2010
How did they do? In preparation for the most recent G8 meeting, Oxfam in Scotland produced an "Auchterarder Audit", to assess how far the promises made at Gleneagles in 2005 have been met. You can download their findings here.
