Working in the Church
There are many types of opportunities for working in the Church, whether it is within one of the ministries, a support position, overseas or with our social care agency, CrossReach.
Ministries
The call to ministry within the Church of Scotland can take a variety of forms. The recognised ministries are ordained ministers of Word and Sacrament - both full-time and auxiliary - deacons, readers and chaplains. Visit our Ministries in the Church pages to find out how you can answer a call to the ministries of the Church of Scotland, and about training and recruitment to ministries.
Filling a vacant charge
When a charge becomes vacant, an interim Moderator and a nominating committee are appointed to assist in finding a new minister.
Working overseas with the World Mission Council
The World Mission Council works in countries around the world usually on the basis of partnership with local churches and institutions and always with a view to involving church members in Scotland in the development of the work. Find out more about working with mission partners overseas.
Central Services posts within the Church
The Central Services Committee oversees the delivery of services to departments and councils within the Church offices and in some cases to presbyteries and congregations. These include office management, IT, human resources, financial, legal, property, media and communications, and design services.
CrossReach
CrossReach is the Church of Scotland's social care agency which provides care and support services. CrossReach employs more than 2,000 staff in 80 services stretching from Shetland to the Borders. Visit CrossReach's website at www.crossreach.org.uk/vacancies.
Local posts
Our parishes and presbyteries employ a number of posts at local level. Projects which are supported by the Parish Development Fund can also employ staff to work with the project.
Volunteering
There are many opportunities to volunteer your time and talents to the Church of Scotland either with your local community right through to helping on a global scale through the World Mission Council. Find out more about volunteering opportunities.
