Nomination Committee
Our remit
The remit of the Nomination Committee is to identify ministers, deacons, elders and members with particular skills and experience for serving on the Church's councils and standing committees, and then recommend those names to the General Assembly. The Assembly has the power to accept or reject these nominations.
The Committee meets in January to select individuals for appointment.
Information on what is expected from members on each of the councils and standing commitees is shown below. Fuller details can be found in the Year Book.
Proposing individuals for appointment
The Committee's task is to identify ministers, deacons, elders and members whose skills and experience will be of particular use to a given area of work. It also seeks to maintain age and gender balance and a fair geographical representation.
There are many people with the necessary skills and commitment but the Committee relies heavily on suggestions from across the Church. Your assistance as a member of the Church is warmly invited, and a proforma can be downloaded from the side for this purpose.
The Nomination Committee advises that you approach those whom you wish to nominate and complete the pro-forma together. Once the Committee has met, those selected will receive a written invitation to accept nomination. Please note that there is no guarantee that all those put forward will be approached by the Committee and it would be helpful if you could explain this to those whom you nominate.
Please ensure that your proposals are submitted by the end of November to the committee Secretary of the Nomination Committee at the Church offices or by email.
