Never a dull moment
Coming back from Hamilton Presbytery we have enjoyed a few days 'at home' in Edinburgh, and from here we have enjoyed a varied programme for the week. We had two days at the Bield at Blackruthven, firstly for a directors' meeting and then to enjoy a day reflecting on the love of God, led by John Bell; he has such an ability to be always refreshingly profound, and inspiring.
Friday saw us both in Perth for the beginning of Guild Week. Although the event was only agreed fairly recently, the North Church was well filled for the launch of the 'chains of peace'. Watch out for a member near you wearing a Guild badge – they may want to offer you peace - the peace of Christ, peace of mind, the dream of peace on earth, and this seems a very appropriate venture in the face of our troubled world.
| Candles were distributed and members encouraged to find someone in their home towns with whom to have a conversation about peace, and to offer the candle as a sign of hope. |

Peace is what we always want, and peace is always what Christ gives.
We were back to Hamilton West Church on Friday evening for the annual presentation of the BB cheque to World Mission. Each year has a theme around which the boys fundraise and this year it was 'What a load of rubbish!' highlighting the plight of youngsters in Nagpur in North India who scavenge rubbish dumps for food and for scraps to recycle and sell.
| The total was £14.000 and boys from Stornoway, Scone and Bridge of Weir were there to receive their trophies for the most monies raised. Well done to them and to all the companies that helped towards this magnificent total! |

Saturday was Maggie's day as we attended the annual service for St Margaret's Day.

Ninety Margarets worshipped at one of the three services in the little chapel at Edinburgh Castle. St Margaret's Guild not only provides the flowers every week to adorn the church (one of the oldest in Scotland) for the thousands of visitors, but from the sale of books about St Margaret, they donate around £10,000 a year to various charities. |
On Sunday our final celebration of the week was unique. The Rev Donald Fraser was marking 50 years in the ministry in the one charge at Monifieth, and the love within the congregation gathered for worship was tangible.

Recently as part of the Presbytery Plan, the three churches in Monifieth have united, most amicably. Donald was senior chaplain to the Very Rev Alan Main when he was Moderator, and he came to play the organ for the service, and to give a tribute to Donald both as friend and colleague.
Meanwhile, in between times, we have both been preparing for our visit next week to the Presbytery of England and the St Andrewstide week in London.
