Mission and care

INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the mission and care pages of the Church
of Scotland. This page provides an overview of information
available across this site about our mission and care.
Follow the links below for further details.
Mission 'at home'
Taking a lead in promoting an overall focus for mission
in Scotland, which reflects the recognition that our whole
identity in the Church is bound up with our sharing and
living our the Good News in our time and place, is the
Church's Mission and Discipleship Council.
 |
The council also takes a lead role
in developing and delivering to congregations
quality resources to assist their own renewal
as communities of nurture, worship and witness.
Click
here for more information about their extensive
mission work, which includes education and parish-based
work in children's and youth ministry; publishing;
faith-sharing and a focus on worship, doctrine,
Church art and architecture.
|
Mission internationally
Our mission on an international scale is led by
the World Mission Council. Its focus is about global
connections - two way traffic in sharing Christ
and learning from each other. Mission internationally
is also about partnership, being involved and being
active. Click
here to learn more from the World Mission Council
and play your part in world mission. |
 |
Social care mission
Our Social Care Council, which operates under the name
CrossReach, delivers and supports a range of social care
programmes in Scotland as one of the country's largest
provider of social services.
 |
Services include care for older people,
help with alcoholism, drug and mental health problems
and assistance for homeless people and those with
special learning needs.

Mission and evangelism
Information on a range of mission and evangelism projects
carried out by the Church - those which proclaim the Gospel
or 'good news' of Jesus Christ - are available also from
our Mission and Discipleship Council.

Mission, education and young people
The Church is dedicated to developing its mission in the
sphere of education. It does so principally in two ways:
| The Education and Nurture Task Group
of the Mission and Discipleship Council has a special
focus for developing a strategy for young people
which will clarify the nature and purpose of youth
work in the Church of Scotland. It also has a clear
mission focus to express the Church's aspirations
for the young people of Scotland. To find out more
about the task group's work, click
here. |
 |
Meanwhile, delivering the Church's mission goals through
helping to meet religious education and school chaplaincy
needs in Scotland is the Education Committee of the Church
and Society Council. For more information on their work
throughout the country, click
here.
HIV/AIDS Project
| The Church of Scotland
is continuing to raise urgently needed funds for
its mission-based HIV/AIDS project, adopted by the
Church's General Assembly in 2002. The project raises
awareness among people in Scotland and gives practical
support to our partners around the world. Already,
hundreds of thousands of pounds have been raised
by the appeal for essential international projects,
but more aid is needed to help the 40 million people
worldwide who are living with the disease. |
 |
To find out more about the project, and to donate online
to the appeal to help save a life today, click

Parish Development Fund
 |
The Parish Development Fund encourages
local churches to work together with others in mission
for the benefit of the whole community - and to
take risks in living and sharing the Gospel in relevant
ways. To find out more about the fund's work, and
to read more information about how to access grants
and resources, click
here. |
Together for a change
This mission-focused project brings together people
from poor communities (two in Scotland two in the
developing world) through local churches to share
one another's experiences, to learn from one another
and to make practical suggestions about how we might
do things differently. For latest mission updates
to the project, click
here. |

Church without Walls
| The innovative Church
without Walls project encourages congregations to
break away from established worship structures that
prevent or distract people from following Jesus
and instead refocus their mission, faith and role
in the Church. To find out more about this exciting
initiative, visit the dedicated Church without Walls
pages online by clicking
