PRIORITY AREAS

About us

The Priority Areas Committee is one of four main areas of the Ministries Council. It is responsible for the support, development and coordination of the Church of Scotland's work within its poorest 58 communities.

These parishes were identified using the Scottish Government's Indicators of Multiple Deprivation and established following the 2001 General Assembly which stated 'priority for the poorest and most marginalised is the Gospel imperative facing the whole Church.'

Whilst recognising that priority area parishes have a particular set of needs and problems, the Church also recognises that there are many strengths, skills and assets within such communities.

• Wider Church & Society - raising awareness of poverty across the country
  
• New Models of Church - supporting fresh models of church life in Scotland's poorest neighbourhoods
  
• New Models of Community - helping people of faith to address the causes and symptoms of poverty
